Launching the Online Newspaper of the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law

His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, emphasized the critical role of the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law in regional, international, and local contexts. He highlighted the committee's commitment to promoting the awareness of international humanitarian law through various channels and initiatives, as well as its dedication to enhancing and documenting Saudi Arabia's contributions to implementing international humanitarian law.
During the unveiling of the Online Newspaper of the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law and the upcoming launch of the Saudi Journal of International Law, His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al-Faisal affirmed the committee's commitment to raising awareness of international law using both traditional and modern communication channels. He noted the committee's active participation in international forums and events, showcasing Saudi Arabia's wise leadership's significant role in promoting international humanitarian law. Furthermore, he highlighted the leadership's dedication to advocating for peace, resolving conflicts, discouraging violence, and prioritizing diplomacy and mediation to reduce armed conflicts and warfare.
In his statement, His Highness expressed satisfaction with the collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing the media and communication functions through enriching the content of the Saudi Newspaper of International Law. He announced the launch of the Saudi Newspaper on Monday, October 7, 2024, and mentioned the commencement of the final preparatory steps for the upcoming release of the Saudi Journal of International Law. This semi-annual peer-reviewed scientific journal will be published in Arabic and English by the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law. His Highness highlighted that these initiatives stem from various media platforms that showcase Saudi Arabia's role, contributions, and efforts in advancing the principles of international humanitarian law, underscoring that "the media serves as the platform tasked with elucidating, interpreting, and presenting facts supported by evidence and conclusive proofs."  
He highlighted that the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law leverages diverse media channels as conduits to engage with the public and educate them about Saudi Arabia's initiatives in multiple realms concerning international humanitarian law, as well as the committee's duties, mission, and goals that align with the government's strategies, which continuously garner admiration and acclaim from the global community on humanitarian matters. His Highness closed his remarks by expressing gratitude to the committee's leadership and offering prayers for their success in fulfilling their noble task.
In his statement, Dr. Jalal bin Mohammed Alowaisi, President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority and Chairman of the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law, outlined the committee's focus on engaging with key stakeholders within the country. Dr. Alowaisi underscored the pivotal role of media outlets in educating communities and guiding them toward achieving developmental and cognitive objectives.
Dr. Alowaisi praised the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies collaboration with the Standing Committee in media and awareness initiatives, expressing gratitude for their efforts in developing the Saudi Newspaper of International Law, the launch of which is commended. Additionally, he highlighted the collaboration with the Committee to publish the Saudi Journal of International Law, a semi-annual peer-reviewed scientific journal issued by the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law in Arabic and English.
He emphasized that the media endeavors of the Standing Committee are part of a comprehensive strategy with noble goals. These efforts aim to showcase Saudi Arabia's tireless contributions to fostering the culture of international humanitarian law and endorsing all initiatives that advocate for a global humanitarian community based on friendly relations, dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect among nations. The goal is to diminish the negative impacts of conflicts, hostilities, and rivalries while promoting the values and principles of international humanitarian law. By enhancing an understanding of international humanitarian law and showcasing its significance and the entities that first established it, the Committee intends to bolster cooperation between Saudi Arabia and other countries, recognizing Saudi Arabia as the home of the Two Holy Mosques and the Qibla for Muslims. This initiative involves strengthening the Committee's presence, defining its roles, and facilitating media coverage to highlight Saudi Arabia's vital contributions to this crucial international field.
He highlighted that the online Newspaper and the peer-reviewed Journal further advance the Committee's goals by enhancing its media outreach to both the general public and experts in human rights and international humanitarian law. This strategic initiative utilizes scientific methodologies and professional approaches to amplify the Committee's visibility and engagement within these fields.
