A Saudi-Egyptian-Qatari symposium to support efforts to establish international humanitarian law

On the margin of the 34th International Conference in Geneva

The Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, Dr. Amal Imam, confirmed that the Egyptian, Saudi and Qatari delegations concerned with international humanitarian law held a side seminar on the margin of the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, which was held in the Swiss capital, Geneva, from October 28 to 31, 2024, with the participation of (194) international associations, bodies and organizations.
She said that the participants discussed ways to support and strengthen international humanitarian law, noting that this comes in conjunction with the various armed conflicts and disputes witnessed in the Middle East.
Dr. Imam explained that the convening of the international conference comes at a time the bodies responsible for international humanitarian law in the Arab region are emphasizing the importance of joint cooperation and the necessity of working to disseminate the principles, values ​​and ethics of international humanitarian law, and that this law should be the foundation and basis that must be adhered to in order to confront all challenges.
She stated that the symposium highlighted the effective role played by Arab parties seeking to consolidate the concepts and culture of international humanitarian law considering the existence of joint regional action plans for this purpose, the exchange of expertise and the enhancement of capabilities, revealing that history, whether Arab or Islamic, as well as Arab civilizations, establish the laws that seek to consolidate international humanitarian law.
