Students of the Executive Diploma Program in International Humanitarian Law at the National Defense University visit the headquarters of the “Standing Committee”
Students of the Executive Diploma Program for International Humanitarian Law at the National Defense University visited the headquarters of the Standing Committee on International Humanitarian Law in Riyadh. During the visit, the committee was introduced and its efforts and endeavors to spread the culture of international humanitarian law and implement it in training and practical fields were reviewed.
The Committee relies in its application of international humanitarian law on the established Islamic humanitarian principles extending from the era of the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, Passing by the approach Majesty King Abdulaziz - may Allah bless his soul - and up to this era under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz - and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman - may Allah protect them - in the implementation and commitment of the Kingdom, represented by the military sectors, especially the Saudi Armed Forces, of international humanitarian law at all levels, which was reflected in the Kingdom’s international standing, making it a model to be emulated in the implementation and respect of international humanitarian law.
Secretary-General Counselor Abdullah Al-Ruwaili said during his briefing on the work and tasks of the committee that the committee believes in the importance of exchanging knowledge and transferring expertise, especially for our security men who defend this country. Therefore, the committee cooperated with several national and international entities, including the Ministry of Defense, represented by the National Defense University, to adopt a diploma in international humanitarian law, which aims to implement the principles of international humanitarian law, by qualifying national competencies as military and civilian legal advisors, to provide legal advice during the planning and implementation of military operations.
The Committee is also keen to align national efforts with the best international practices, and this is confirmed by its effective participation in international conferences and forums in order to highlight the Kingdom’s role in this regard, in addition to participating in the formulation and preparation of laws that would enhance the enforcement and implementation of international humanitarian law during conflicts and build a peaceful environment that enhances the stability of societies.
At the end of the visit, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Humanitarian Law, Dr. Jalal Al-Awaisi, met with the members of the Executive Diploma Program, expressing his pride and estimation for the efforts made by the Ministry of Defense members in implementing international humanitarian law, which has strengthened the Kingdom’s position in the humanitarian aspect, allover its participation in conflicts to defend its lands. The Kingdom has begun to achieve humanitarian goals in conflicts, due to the interest it sets forth to humanity in times of conflict, which has strengthened its value in this aspect.
