The Standing Committee reviews the achievements of 2024 and efforts to spread the culture of international humanitarian law
At its 39th Executive Meeting in Riyadh
The Standing Committee on International Humanitarian Law held its 39th executive meeting in Riyadh on Monday, December 30, 2024, chaired by the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Humanitarian Law and President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, Dr. Jalal Al-Owaisi, and attended by members of the Committee from military and civilian entities.
The meeting discussed the report on the work of the Executive Committee and the subcommittees and their performance during the fourth quarter of 2024. During the meeting, the efforts and work of the Committee were reviewed, especially its participation in the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, as the Committee seeks through these participations to highlight the efforts of the Kingdom in the field of international humanitarian law. The meeting also reviewed the achievements of the Committee during the year 2024 and its efforts to spread the culture of international humanitarian law, in addition to the efforts of the members.
The Standing Committee on International Humanitarian Law seeks to achieve ambitious visions and strategic goals during the next phase, based on the deep-rooted values of Saudi society that have made the culture of international humanitarian law an integral part of its fabric, thanks to the ideal blend between Islamic principles and the distinctive social characteristics of Saudi society in times of peace and war, which the committee reflects in its logo, a vision that confirms the depth of this connection and its extension over time.
The Standing Committee on International Humanitarian Law focuses in its future plans on enhancing the position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a beacon in enriching the culture of international humanitarian law, not only by contributing to the development of its practical actions at the civil and military levels, but also by presenting a sustainable practical model that reflects Saudi values and rooting them as a model for commitment to international humanitarian law.
The Committee seeks to shed light on the success of the Saudi experience and to highlight its legal, historical and cultural dimensions, making it a qualitative addition that enriches the system of international humanitarian law.
