The 36th General Meeting of the Standing Committee - Alrwaily: Our Focus is on Enhancing Committee Activities and Highlighting the Kingdom's Crucial Role in Upholding International Peace and Security
The 36th meeting of the Standing Committee of International Humanitarian Law was convened under the leadership of Dr. Jalal Al-Owaisi, President of the Committee and President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, with attendance from all members representing civilian and military entities.
The Committee's Secretary-General, Counselor Abdullah bin Medrek Alrwaily, elaborated that in the meeting, the Standing Committee reviewed the report on the activities and achievements of its subcommittees in the final quarter of 2023, underlining the significance of aligning and consolidating official endeavors to realize the Committee's goals.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the committee also discussed the topics to be included in its agenda, with a primary focus on enhancing the committee's strategies for the ongoing year of 2024 concerning its activities and upcoming events. This includes prioritizing training initiatives and promoting awareness of international humanitarian law in alignment with the Kingdom international commitments in this field.
Counselor Alrwaily outlined that the Standing Committee aims to promote awareness of international humanitarian law, uphold its principles, implement them nationally following global standards, serve as the primary national resource for guidance on international humanitarian law, and enhance collaborations with local and international partners in this domain.
He mentioned that efforts are currently ongoing to activate and broaden the scope of the committee's activities at both regional and international levels. Additionally, he highlighted the significant and influential role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting global peace and security, mitigating conflicts, and resolving disputes between nations to achieve the desired stability. This aims to foster continuous development and enhance the well-being and prosperity of people worldwide. It is noteworthy that the Kingdom receives international and regional recognition and respect for its mature policies and wise principles guided by the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.
