In this regard, the President of the Saudi Red Crescent Society and the Chairman of the Permanent Committee on International Humanitarian Law, Dr. Jalal bin Muhammad Al-Owaisi, stated on the occasion of International Humanitarian Law Day, saying: We proudly celebrate our country’s commitment to the rules of international humanitarian law, which reflects the values, principles and ideals inherent in this nation, its wise leadership and its blessed people.
He added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia spares no effort in providing all the necessary support, endorsement and support to spread the culture of international humanitarian law locally and globally, as it is one of the important mechanisms for spreading the concept of peace and its spread, avoiding conflicts and creating a world in which conflicts, their consequences and risks to all countries without exception are greatly reduced.
Dr. Al-Owaisi stated that the Kingdom’s respect for international humanitarian law is consistent with our country’s positions and vision derived from tolerant Islamic law and the principles of the true Islamic religion, which are based on love, affection, peace, forgiveness, and the avoidance of bloodshed and wars.
Our ambition is to reach the sky
In turn, the Secretary-General of the Permanent Committee for International Humanitarian Law, Counselor Abdullah bin Mudrik Al-Ruwaili, said that the ceiling of our ambitions in the committee is derived from the saying of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, “Our ambition and the ceiling of our ambition is to reach the sky,” pointing out that the Kingdom’s celebration On this day, the values, authenticity, and humanity inherent in this society over decades are translated into optimal adherence to the rules of international humanitarian law locally and contributing to its development globally in accordance with the best international criterion.
Al-Ruwaili said that the Kingdom, since its signing of the Geneva Conventions, has been permanently committed, whether at the level of application or at the level of awareness and definition of international humanitarian law, which is not surprising and is not far from the culture of this noble country, which derives all its lofty principles from the glorious Islamic culture, the great Islamic history, and from its local national culture, which honors peace and the preservation of human lives in peace and war.
He pointed out that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation decided in 2015 to have a day for international humanitarian law.
Pioneering achievements
Director General of the General Department of International Cooperation, Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Al Saud, confirmed that this day is an extension of the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is full of pioneering achievements at the level of all international work, specifically with regard to the international humanitarian dimension, praising the efforts of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and its sublime contributions in this field, which has become clear to everyone.
Chairman of the Media and Publication Committee, Dr. Hamdan Saleh Al-Juhani, said on International Humanitarian Law Day, we celebrate the Kingdom’s pioneering efforts and achievements in disseminating, enforcing and applying the rules of international humanitarian law nationally in accordance with global best practices.
Historical depth
It is noteworthy that the Kingdom is at the forefront of countries that have a historical depth in preserving human beings and preserving their dignity in peace and war. Hence, the Permanent Committee worked to spread the culture of humanitarian law nationally in accordance with international best practices, and to contribute to its development locally and internationally, including: Strengthening the provisions of the four Geneva Conventions, and the two additional protocols attached to it, developing the legislative environment and harmonizing national legislation with the development of international agreements, cooperating with international parties responsible for applying international humanitarian law to highlight the national role, disseminating the provisions of international humanitarian law on a large scale, and studying its applications, as well as providing courses and consultations to relevant parties to raise awareness of international humanitarian law.
